If you are an adult and want to provide Cubes in Space to one or one thousand students, we have "use at your own pace" online training and course materials for you. Use the resources to help students design creative, high-quality experiments and write proposals to submit to be considered for a spot on a NASA sounding rocket or scientific balloon mission.

What People Are Saying

Cubes in Space

Margot Solberg

"Cubes in Space provides a phenomenal platform, which is both meaningful and student-centered, for increasing student interest in STEM; especially for girls. As an educator, this unique opportunity also enriches my personal interest in space education."

STEAM Opportunities for Students

Angela L. - parent

My daughter really enjoyed this session and her interaction with Amber Agee-DeHart. She left the conversation encouraged and enthusiastic about the many STEAM opportunities out there which align with her interests. The instructor took extra time to engage with me ahead of the session to determine my daughter's areas of interest, so that she could provide specific information and opportunities available in those fields. I am very appreciative of the time, effort and encouragement Amber provided and we look forward to participating in future educational sessions with her.

Cubes in Space

Ashlie Smith - educator

"Cubes in Space is a part of my curriculum now. I am known for running this program. I love how it inspires students and gets them to think beyond their classroom walls. Typically, this type of program is for university students. I like how it is a real-world authentic experience for middle and high school students."

Increased my interest in STEM

Dagmar Diamante - student

“Cubes in Space ultimately sparked [my] growing passion for the science field…[which] led me to currently pursue a STEM major/career. Overall, Cubes in Space was a life-changing experience for me.” D. Daniel, student

Big Science in Little Cubes!

Message from the Program Founder, Amber Agee-DeHart

It's hard to believe that this is the ninth year of our Cubes in Space program.  Many of you have integrated the program into your teaching or STEM-enrichment offerings over the years. You've watched the program grow and improve, and we've experienced joys and disappointments together.  If the pandemic taught us anything it's that we are stronger than we ever imagined and possess great determination and perseverance.  And out of challenging times can come new ideas and opportunities as a means to sustain our programs...or sanity.

For a couple of years, we've had an idea kicking about in our heads to design a powered-experiment program.  And now we have the opportunity to develop and offer the Cubes in Space ION+ (Individual Onboard Nanocomputer) program,  which will be open for pre-registration in early winter 2022. Students will learn about concepts of space mission design, scientific exploration, electricity, electronics, hardware components, software and basic coding, and engineering principles in this authentic learning-by-doing approach to hardware development and testing on the Research Balloon-7 mission next summer.  We will even be offering educator professional development/training for those that have always wanted to delve into electronics!

Because we were not able to fly the Sounding Rocket-7 (SR-7) experiments - because FedEx lost our package and returned it a month later - we will not have 80 spaces available on the SR-8 mission that launches in June 2022.  Therefore, competition will be even more fierce than ever! But don't let that deter your students.  Scientific research and exploration, along with technology development, take time and perseverance!

Lastly, we developed new hands-on activities, assessments and remote-learning resources for this 2022 program.  And our content has a new look and feel too!

We can't wait for your and your students to embark on this journey of exploration and discovery.  So let's get started!
